History from Above: From WWII to Syria
Essential Questions:
- How can we use the mistakes and triumphs of WWII to guide our actions in Syria?
- Does history have to repeat itself?
Above is my WWII timeline. We created an initial timeline of events from WWII based on the documentary, America: The Story of Us.
Above is my Syrian Civil War timeline. We created a timeline of events from the Syrian Civil War from the years 2011-2015 based on the article, "Syria: The Story of Conflict."
Above is an infoweb that helps me understand why ISIS rose to power. We found the information from the documentary, Frontline: Rise of ISIS.
“From the documentary, what do you think was the most important event that caused ISIS to rise to power?”
“From the documentary, what do you think was the most important event that caused ISIS to rise to power?”
Above is a photo journal I made that answers a question that was raised in class. My question was "What is a caliphate and why did ISIS declare itself one?"
Resonance of Remembrance
My Dad5AM:
He woke up at 4:30 to get to work on time, and the first thing he did was check on all 4 of us kids: my brothers, Jay and Devon, and my sister Ava and I. He made himself a cup of coffee before heading off to work. He walked out the front door, locking it behind him, got in his 1963 Volkswagen Bug and headed onto the 805 freeway. His eyes were fixed on the road; it was foggy and raining. Nearly 15 minutes away from his work, on the Pacific Highway, something unexpected happened. His car lost control, flipped on its side, skid to the left shoulder, and nearly flipped over the ramp. He sat there speechless, his mind was jumping all over the place, thinking of all the things he should do in the moment, almost as if his mind and soul left his body and let it sit there in complete shock. Suddenly he was zapped back into the reality of the situation. He took seatbelt off and climbed up to get out of car since it was on its side. He called 911, then called my mom. 5:45AM: I woke up and started browsing my closet debating on what I should wear that day. I heard a knock on my door. “Coming!” I said. "You don't need to get dressed. You're not going to school," my mom said blankly. "What? Why?" "We’re gonna wait till your dad comes home. He got into an accident." My heart stopped. "What? Is he okay? Where is he?" I asked, my heart beating faster. "He's fine Alexis-don't worry," my mom assured. I took a deep breath. I was still trying to process everything, but I couldn't believe it. I felt emotionless. I just sat on the couch and waited for my dad to come home. I heard a noise and ran out of the house. I saw a big navy blue tow truck backing into our driveway. My dad stepped out of the truck like nothing had happened to him. As the car was being lowered down to the cement of our driveway, I was analyzing the whole car, looking at all the dents and scrapes. I froze like a deer in headlights. I was imagining the crash in my mind. I kept thinking “what if”. What if he didn't have to go to work today? What if it was someone else? What if he flipped over that rail? Imagine living without a father. It would be like living without a heart, you need it to live and grow. I need my dad, he was always there for me, never gave up on me, he never once told me I wouldn't be able to do something. He always sees the best in me. I couldn't possibly live without my dad. My dad walked up to the front door. I ran up to him and gave him the biggest hug. So many thoughts were running through my head, but all I could say was “You're lucky dad, I'm lucky”. |
